Rowen Williams is the Number One Goalkeeper in Africa

Ronwen Williams, the esteemed Bafana Bafana Captain and goalkeeper, has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Glove for his outstanding performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Undoubtedly, Williams showcased his exceptional skills and played a pivotal role in this competition, striving to deliver an exceptional performance for South Africa in every aspect. Throughout the tournament, he managed to keep five clean sheets and only conceded twice, culminating in a remarkable display during the final game against DR Congo on Saturday, where he saved two penalties and secured the bronze medal for his team.

It is worth noting that Ronwen Williams triumphed over Nigeria's goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, to claim the coveted Golden Glove award. Both goalkeepers play their trade in South Africa, albeit for different teams. Nwabali represents Chippa United, while Williams proudly dons the colors of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Ronwen Williams is a proud South African citizen. He embarked on his football journey with the renowned Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur, during his youth career. In 2004, Williams joined SuperSport United as a youth player and eventually made his debut in the prestigious CAF Champions League. After an illustrious 12-year tenure with SuperSport United, he signed with Mamelodi Sundowns on July 21, 2022, marking a new chapter in his career.
