Ex-IDAC boss allegedly slams commissioners as "unprofessional" in call to subordinate who recorded her after feeling "thrown under the bus"

PRETORIA — A secret phone call has thrown fresh fuel on the fire at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
On Wednesday, the commission played an audio recording allegedly between former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson and IDAC prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy. In the call, Johnson is heard using profane language to describe the commission and questioning the conduct of its chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
Ramsamy testified on Thursday that she recorded the call nine days ago because she no longer trusted Johnson. She told the commission Johnson had "thrown her under the bus multiple times" during her own testimony.
While parts of the audio are difficult to hear, Johnson can allegedly be heard criticizing the commission’s professionalism.
"Whether we like it or not, they are going to make our names s_*_ anyway, you can just see it… Remember he’s a judge. For him to make a comment that this is basic law 101, I’m surprised you don’t know it with your 30 years' experience. The judge makes faces, and they laugh with each other while you’re still answering; it’s so unprofessional."
The recording relates to ongoing tension at IDAC, which falls under the NPA and handles high-profile corruption and police crisis cases.
Ramsamy told the commission she felt Johnson was trying to shift blame onto her and other subordinates during testimony. The secret recording, she said, was to protect herself.
The commission heard this as part of a week of explosive evidence about infighting, alleged dishonesty, and the true nature of relationships inside IDAC.
The Madlanga Commission is expected to give Johnson an opportunity to respond to the new allegations — either through a written statement or by returning to testify in person.
Johnson has already faced questioning this month over her testimony, her decision to prosecute suspended top cop Masemola, and her alleged relationship with Feroz Khan.
The commission was established to probe allegations of corruption and dysfunction within law enforcement and prosecutorial structures.
