Bela-Bela became ground zero for Limpopo’s future on Tuesday as MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Tonny Rachoene launched Youth Month 2026 with a message only a builder can give.
Rachoene: a trailblazer trusted by the people, now opening doors for the next generation. That’s not a slogan. That’s his CV. From former ANC Youth League Limpopo Provincial Chairperson who did very well, to ANC Limpopo PEC member and ANC Limpopo Provincial Spokesperson, to MEC — every step he climbed, he left the ladder down for others.
Representing Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba at the briefing session with EXCO, Mayors and Councillors, MEC Rachoene set the tone before launching month-long activities commemorating June 16, 1976:
“Representing the Honourable Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, I am today in the Bela Bela Municipality for a briefing session just before the launch of the 2026 Youth Month programme. Members of EXCO are joined by Mayors and Councillors as we will shortly launch the month long activities in commemoration of the historic June 16, 1976 uprising.”
MEC Rachoene urged the youth to take advantage of all youth employment opportunities offered by government and all its entities. But he made one thing clear: a door means nothing if you don’t walk through it with excellence.
“You must embrace your studies, your careers, your businesses and your communities. Do not allow circumstances to define your future. Instead, use every challenge as a stepping stone towards success. As we work to create opportunities for the development of our youth, we must also ensure that the youth is informed of the opportunities that exists,” says MEC Rachoene.
That’s a trailblazer talking — a man the people trust because he’s lived every word.
Because every door government opens can be closed by bad leadership, Tony ended with power:
“As the theme of the youth month states, we as a nation have a commitment to the future, and to defend the gains of our freedom without risking going back to the dark days of apartheid. The youth of our province and the country at large must register to vote, and of course vote correctly,” concludes MEC Rachoene.
The launch proved youth development is whole-of-government under #ALimpopoThatWorksForAll. In attendance: Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Jerry Maseko, Treasury MEC Kgabo Mahoai, Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Nakedi Kekana and MEC for Health Dieketseng Mashego, plus Mayors.
Bela-Bela Local Municipality Mayor Councillor Gloria Modiegi Seleka welcomed all delegates, showing a municipality ready to turn provincial vision into local jobs.
After the launch, MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Rachoene told media: Youth Month must move from commemoration to construction. Skills. Jobs. Ownership.
Rachoene is the definition of a modern leader: trailblazer, trusted, PEC member, Provincial Spokesperson, MEC. In Bela-Bela he didn’t just speak for government. He spoke for every young person who needs to see that the climb is possible.
Government will build the roads. Tonny Rachoene will make sure youth know where they lead. Now walk through the door, Limpopo.
