Tribute to a Consummate Leader: ANC's Fikile Mbalula Pays Respects to David Mabuza

The Mpumalanga ANC provincial chairperson and premier is Mandla Ndlovu welcoming ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula who paid a visit  to the family of former Deputy President David Mabuza.


The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, paid a visit to the family of former Deputy President David Mabuza, paying tribute to his legacy as a unifying force within the party. Mbalula confirmed that Mabuza would be laid to rest on Saturday, July 12, 2025, and would receive a Category 2 State Funeral, as declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa.


Mbalula described Mabuza as a consummate leader who played a significant role in uniting ANC members. He highlighted Mabuza's ability to execute his mandate effectively as Deputy President, demonstrating his commitment to the party's values and principles. Mbalula also praised Mabuza for being organized and disciplined, never speaking outside the party's structures through social media or the media.


Mbalula emphasized Mabuza's respect for the current leadership, noting that he was a team player who worked collaboratively with others. He also thanked the media for their coverage of Mabuza's passing, acknowledging the important role they play in sharing the news with the nation.


President Ramaphosa has declared that Mabuza will receive a Category 2 State Funeral, which is reserved for former Deputy Presidents, Acting Presidents, and Deputy Presidents of the Republic. The funeral will be held in Mpumalanga, with military ceremonial honors.


As a mark of respect, President Ramaphosa has declared a period of National Mourning from Monday, July 7, 2025, to the evening of Saturday, July 12, 2025. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast at all flag stations across the country.


The Mabuza family has announced that the funeral service will be held at Hoërskool Bergvlam in Nelspruit (City of Mbombela) on Saturday, July 12, 2025. A private family service will follow the official funeral service, where Mabuza will be laid to rest.


David Mabuza's legacy extends beyond his role as Deputy President. He served in various capacities, including Premier of Mpumalanga, Member of Parliament, and MEC for Education. His contributions to the country's development and freedom will be remembered for generations to come.


The Mabuza family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences from across the nation. They invite those who wish to pay their last respects to attend the memorial services, which will be announced in due course.
