VANDERBIJLPARK – Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs Jacob Mamabolo recently took decisive leadership in Emfuleni, engaging the municipality’s newly elected Executive Mayor Cllr Hassan Mako, the Mayoral Committee, Executive Management Team, and municipal staff during an Imbizo in Vanderbijlpark.

With both infrastructure and governance under his portfolio, MEC Mamabolo’s visit sent a strong signal: Provincial government is bringing full weight to support Emfuleni’s recovery. “We Will Work Together To Serve Our Communities,”MEC said.

The Imbizo follows the announcement of Emfuleni’s new Mayoral Committee.

“Following the announcement of the new Mayoral Committee after the election of the Executive Mayor, today's Imbizo was an opportunity to congratulate them, wish them well, and reaffirm our full support as we work together to serve our communities,” Mamabolo said.

“We wish them well, and we reaffirm our full support. The people of Emfuleni deserve infrastructure that works and government that delivers.”

As MEC responsible for both COGTA and Infrastructure Development, Mamabolo told the new leadership that Emfuleni’s turnaround will require fixing systems AND fixing roads, water, and facilities.

“As Infrastructure and COGTA MEC, my job is to ensure municipalities are capacitated to govern well, and that we deliver the infrastructure our people need,” he said.

“We are not here to micromanage. We are here to support, to build, and to ensure that no community is left behind.”

He also gave feedback to staff on issues raised during last year’s COGTA Imbizos and committed to addressing ongoing challenges.

Executive Mayor Cllr Hassan Mako welcomed the MEC’s support, saying the new Mayco is focused on accountability, financial stability, and restoring services across Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging and Sebokeng.

The engagement forms part of #GrowingGautengTogether — aligning provincial and local government to get the basics right.

Known for his hands-on approach, MEC Mamabolo closed with a clear message:

“To the people of Emfuleni: We hear you. We see you. With better governance and better infrastructure, Emfuleni’s turnaround starts now.”
