In the face of unprecedented challenges, Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba stood tall, her voice unwavering as she delivered her State of the Province Address.

With a 31.9% unemployment rate staring the province in the face, Ramathuba knew that excuses wouldn't cut it. "We are not men and women of empty words, but of tangible commitments," she declared, setting the tone for a speech that would outline her government's plan to tackle poverty, inequality, and economic stagnation.

The Premier's address came against the backdrop of devastating floods that ravaged Vhembe and Mopani, claiming 27 lives and damaging over 3,500 homes. Ramathuba's government has allocated R800 million for flood recovery efforts, with an estimated R10 billion needed for comprehensive repairs. The South African National Defence Force has been deployed to assist with rescue efforts, and a provincial water task team has been established to address chronic water shortages.

Ramathuba's leadership is driving progress, with initiatives like the Integrated Emerging Farmers Support Programme empowering small-scale farmers. One success story is Wendy Moshakga, who expanded her operations and created four jobs with government support. "We used her as an example that Limpopo remains the leading province in terms of people who can work the land without the land," Ramathuba said, highlighting the province's agricultural potential.

The Premier's vision for Limpopo includes achieving universal access to energy, driving economic growth through manufacturing, agriculture, and construction, and investing in skills development. "Not every learner will be a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher, nurse or engineer. We require more artisans, and learners with vocational skills to match the demand of our growing economy," she emphasized.

However, Ramathuba's approach has been criticized by the Democratic Alliance, which described her speech as a "shotgun" method. The DA argues that the province needs to prioritize fixing local government, ensuring reliable water supply, and rebuilding provincial capacity.

Despite the criticism, Ramathuba remains resolute, focusing on tangible results. Her government has committed to implementing the Provincial Water Intervention Strategy, and a draft working document has been presented to mayors. The Premier's unwavering resolve is inspiring hope in Limpopo, as she tackles the province's challenges head-on.

As Ramathuba navigates the complexities of provincial governance, one thing is clear: Limpopo is in capable hands. With her leadership, the province is poised to overcome its challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous.

With over R10 billion in investment commitments, Ramathuba is confident that her government can create thousands of job opportunities and reduce poverty. The 4th Investment Conference was a resounding success, raising up to R120 billion in pledges, far surpassing the R50 billion target. "I would like to commend the collective efforts towards the realization of this achievement," she said.

The Premier's commitment to innovative thinking and industrialization is driving growth in manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Limpopo's GDP contribution has risen from 7.2% to 7.7%, and Ramathuba is determined to build on this momentum.
