LIMPOPO PREMIER HANDED OVER 57 VEHICLES TO TRADITIONAL LEADERS

57 vehicles

Senior traditional leaders in Limpopo were officially handed over 57 vehicles by Premier Stan Mathabatha as part of the government's provision of tools of trade to deserving traditional leaders in line with South African legislation to ensure they deliver their mandate.

Some traditional leaders in Limpopo earlier expressed their discontentment to the ANC provincial executive committee that Premier Mathabatha and his administration neglected them.

Earlier, the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Basikopo Makamu announced that a total number of 102 vehicles would be procured for the Senior Traditional Leaders by the end of the current financial year.

The recent handing over at Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sport Complex in Seshego the home township EEF leader Julius Malema Today’s handover was a first badge of the total number and the remaining will be delivered before the end of this financial year as premier pronounced.

“Traditional leaders remain an important component of our democracy. Despite the many challenges that the Province witnessed previously due to budget constraints which affected allocation of resources to the traditional leaders, the Province has now improved. This year Limpopo through CoGHSTA has built ten offices for Senior traditional leaders in the Province, such is a significant achievement”, said Mathabatha.

“The allocation of vehicles to them is not a present but a provision to them as tools of trade to discharge their responsibilities effectively in line with their mandate and role in government.”

The Chairperson of the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders and the Khoi-San, Hosi Pheni Ngove said: “Traditional leaders should follow the policy provided regarding vehicles provision and appreciate the fact that things have changed unlike previous times when traditional leaders were receiving vehicles without policy to follow.”
