Polokwane, South Africa - The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, has launched a game-changing Smart Revenue Recovery, Enhancement and Digitization Programme, marking a significant milestone in the city's journey towards modernization.

The programme, which involves the installation of 50,000 smart meters across Polokwane, Seshego, and Mankweng clusters, aims to transform how the municipality manages water and electricity services, enhance customer service, and stimulate local economic development. This initiative is part of Mayor Mpe's vision for a smarter, more efficient, and accountable city [1].

In his address, Mayor Mpe emphasized the importance of embracing innovation and adopting technologies that match the speed and complexity of a modern city. "Polokwane is rising, and this rise must be matched by infrastructure developments that strengthen our capacity to serve our people," he said.

The smart metering programme is expected to improve revenue management, enhance billing accuracy, and reduce losses. It will also digitize customer service functions, reducing long queues and simplifying the logging of faults and complaints.
