In a significant milestone for the city’s transportation infrastructure, the Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, recently showcased the city’s state-of-the-art transport hub to Deputy Minister of Transport, Hon. Mkhuleko Hlengwa.
The high-profile visit centred around the Leeto la Polokwane Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN) facilities, a flagship project transforming the way Polokwane’s residents commute.
The inspection, which formed part of the OCTOBER TRANSPORT MONTH CAMPAIGN, saw the delegation, including Mr. Steve Matjena, Head of Department for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, walk through the newly constructed bus lanes, modern boarding bays, and control centres.
This facility is the backbone of Leeto la Polokwane, a programme designed to provide affordable, reliable, and dignified transport services to the city’s residents.
Cllr Mpe hailed the IPTN programme, saying, “Leeto la Polokwane is a game-changer for our city, making transport more accessible and affordable for our residents.” The programme has already made significant strides, with Phase 1A linking Seshego, Flora Park, and Nirvana/Westernberg to the Central Business District (CBD).

One of the programme’s most notable achievements is the integration of affected minibus-taxi operators into the IPTN system. This move not only provides them with a sustainable livelihood but also ensures that commuters enjoy a reliable and efficient service.
Hon. Hlengwa praised the initiative, stating, “Initiatives like Leeto la Polokwane are crucial for building sustainable and integrated transport networks in our cities.” The project underscores Polokwane’s commitment to becoming a smarter, more connected city, where transportation is not just a means of getting from point A to point B, but a catalyst for economic growth and development.
As the city continues to roll out the IPTN programme, residents can look forward to a future where transportation is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.
The Leeto la Polokwane IPTN is a shining example of what can be achieved through collaborative governance and a shared vision for a better future. With projects like these, Polokwane is paving the way for a more sustainable and connected tomorrow.
