Acting Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Hilda Senthumule has denied allegations that Vusi "Cat" Matlala, an alleged cartel member, paid for her Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) cosmetic surgery.

During her testimony before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee, Senthumule joked about the public's interest in her procedure, saying, "People have been dying to see this BBL.

They were expecting… I wouldn't. It has become a national asset, so it must be seen".

Senthumule maintained that her comments were taken out of context, emphasizing that she had not received any favors or benefits from Matlala. "I want to state categorically that I have not received any benefits or favors from Mr. Matlala, and I will continue to serve this country with integrity and professionalism," she told MPs.

However, suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya claims to have evidence, including WhatsApp messages, showing Senthumule's association with Matlala. Sibiya's allegations have sparked concerns about potential corruption and collusion within the police service.

Senthumule also testified about the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), stating that it should have followed a formal assessment and clear decision by relevant structures. "My take is, again, if he says it was irregular, it should be backed by a meeting with a decision that then said the team has managed to stabilise political killings in KwaZulu-Natal," she said.

The Madlanga Commission is investigating allegations of corruption and collusion within the police service, including claims that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu disbanded the PKTT to protect associates involved in organized crime.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Senthumule's leadership and integrity have come under scrutiny. The outcome of the investigation will likely have significant implications for the police service and the country's fight against organized crime.
