No lavish halls. No VIP dinners. Just children, community, and service.
That is how Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba — the first female to hold both the position of ANC Limpopo Provincial Chairperson and Premier — chose to mark her birthday this year.
The Premier spent her special day at the Phologo Drop-in Centre in Seshego Zone 1, Hospital View, Polokwane Municipality, surrounded by the very people at the heart of her administration’s mandate: children, caregivers, and community members.
It was a birthday celebration that looked less like a political event and more like a family gathering — warm, hands-on, and rooted in service.
Photos and live feeds from the Office of the Premier showed Dr Ramathuba beaming, clapping, and engaging directly with children and residents.
She arrived not with fanfare, but with a smile. Dressed in white with beautiful traditional embroidery, the Premier shook hands, listened, and served.
In one moment she was seen personally handing out meals to little ones in pink hats. In another, she was greeting community leaders and center staff with the warmth of a mother and the authority of a leader.
The turnout spoke volumes. The venue was packed under the "City of Polokwane" and "City of Stars" tent, with community members who came not just to wish her well, but to celebrate a leader they call "Mummy" and "our first lady in the province."
Comments flooded in during the livestream: "Happiest birthday ever to our first lady in the province may our good Lord keep under his arms forever"
"Happy birthday mummy" "Happy bday to you our premier. Have a nice enjoyable day"

The choice of venue was deliberate. The Phologo Drop-in Centre provides care, meals, and support to vulnerable children in Seshego. By celebrating there, Dr Ramathuba sent a clear message aligned with her administration’s pillars: #ALimpopoThatWorksForAll and #LetsGrowLimpopoTogether.
For the Premier, a birthday is not a day to receive, but a day to give back.
"This is what the 7th Administration is about," the spirit of the day conveyed. Putting people first. Being where the people are. Growing Limpopo together, one community at a time.
Dr Ramathuba has become known for her no-nonsense approach to governance and her accessibility. As both Provincial Chairperson and Premier, she carries a double responsibility — but on her birthday, she carried plates of food and words of encouragement instead.
She clapped with the crowd. She laughed with the children. She engaged with staff. There were no speeches about herself. The focus was on the children, the caregivers, and the work still to be done.
That is the hallmark of her leadership: visible, grounded, and compassionate.
As Limpopo celebrates its Premier, the message from Seshego Zone 1 is clear. Leadership is not about being served. It is about serving.
Happy Birthday, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba. May your year be as impactful as your service.
