The ANC calls on its controversial MP Boy Mamabolo to desist from conduct that seeks to bring the party into disrepute

The ANC in Limpopo says it remains unshaken by controversial ANC MP Boy Mamabolo who took the ruling party to court after accusing the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) of removing his name from the party’s provincial to national election list.

The ruling party views Mamabolo’s conduct as mischievous, ill-disciplined, counterrevolutionary, misleading, propagating division within the party, entitlement, pompousness and narcissistic.

ANC provincial spokesperson Jimmy Machaka has urged Mamabolo known as “Mr Perfect Wedding” to desist from any conduct that seeks to bring the party into disrepute.  Machaka said such allegations are very unfortunate and therefore ANC in Limpopo will defend itself against controversial Mamabolo for it has not done anything wrong against him.

“The ANC has noted the decision of comrade Mamabolo to take its organisation of the people to court in order to force the organisation to put him on its deployment list. The finalization of registration of candidates to National Assembly and Legislature remains the competency of national leadership of the ANC. Deployment is a privilege and not a right, the ANC will defend itself against cde Boy as there was nothing wrong that was done against him. The party has acted in accordance with the book and has not violated any rules and therefore taking us to court is mischievous,” Machaka.

“The party has done everything in accordance with the constitution. At no moment did the leadership of the ANC remove comrade Boy. Matters of deployment are privileges, they are not a right or a must. The party reserves the right to afford you the opportunity and equally withdraw such opportunity. The ANC will defend itself. There is nothing that was done outside the provisions of the constitution. In this instance, we are pleading with comrade Boy to Contentious ANC MP from Limpopo Boy Mamabolo has accused the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) of removing his name from the party’s provincial to national election list.”Mamabolo’s conduct of public spats might land him into more trouble. He has publicly subjected and entangled himself to Peter Mokaba Region politics. Mamabolo is attacking Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson and Polokwane Mayor John Makoro Mpe with false rumours and claiming that he (Mamabolo) is forced to be his political ally. Mamabolo said he will support Capricorn Mayor Mamedupi Teffo to oust Makoro.

“Boy is not only reckless but factional and out of order. He must be subjected to ANC disciplinary process. He is a bad loser,” said an ANC PEC member.

Another ANC member who also opted to remain anonymous said Mamabolo this time around has bitten more than he could chew. “His desperation has blinded his consciousness,” he said that when he makes tournaments through his Boy Mamabolo Foundation nobody criticises him or orchestrates false rumours.

“The enemy is himself because he has lost his consciousness,” said an ANC member who said he finds it disingenuous and extremely disappointing that Mamabolo and his cronies including Fortune Maswanganyi alleges that Mayor Makoro uses a Municipal purse to fund his event. “That’s not true. They must do proper investigations before spreading false rumours on facebook.”

His attorney Ezra Mzwandile Matlala  lodged an urgent application in the Johannesburg high court to be heard before the finalisation of the candidate list by the IEC on April 10.

According to court papers by Mamabolo’s legal representative he was nominated by various branches across the province in accordance with the ANC’s constitution and election party rules.

“This application seeks urgent relief to interdict the respondent from finalising nominations and appointments in the Limpopo province final list of candidates for the 2024 national and provincial elections. Additionally, to direct the Respondent to produce the following information and documents, pending the relief being sought,” Mamabolo’s court papers stated.

Meanwhile, in 2020, the controversial Mamabolo was found guilty of contravening ANC Constitution rules and bringing the party and its parliamentary caucus into disrepute.

The party Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina wrote a letter to reprimand Mamabolo for verbally abusing a newspaper journalist Ngwako Malatji. Mamabola was ordered to write an apology to Malatji, the general public and to attend an anger management course.

Mamabolo pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against him.

“I pleaded guilty to all the charges that I was facing for insulting and threatening Sunday World journalist Mr Ngwako Malatji. I pleaded guilty because I wanted us to deal with this matter as soon as possible. I’m going to apologise to Mr Malatji because I believe in media freedom and as a public representative, I’m expected to behave myself in a dignified manner. From now on, I know that a private conversation on a cell phone is not different from what we are doing in public. I will be apologising to Mr Malatji, Sanef and also the public at large.”

The ANC Parliamentary Caucus instituted an internal disciplinary process against Mamabolo for the verbal abuse of Malatji. The Caucus denounced Mamabolo’s behaviour, saying that it strives to maintain a cordial relationship with members of the media and respects the Constitutional values and Bill of Rights.

That included freedom of expression as well as the freedom of the press and other media to do its work.
