Mokgapaneng, Phokoane Village – In an extraordinary display of leadership and generosity, three top officials of the ANC Sekhukhune Region turned their shared birthday celebration into a day of joy for a deserving family.
Regional Chairperson Cde Minah Bahula, Deputy Chairperson David Tladi, and Regional Secretary Cde Tala Mathope joined forces to break ground for a brand-new home for the struggling Thokoane family, residents of a crumbling one-room shack with a household of 12.
The sod-turning ceremony, held at Mokgapaneng next to the Junior Bucks Sports Ground, saw the trio put aside personal celebrations to prioritize the needs of others. The Thokoane family, with ten kids aged 2 to 27, had been battling to stay safe amid harsh weather, a challenge the leaders were determined to solve.
“Tala Mathope, the glue that binds us together,” echoed through the crowd as Cde Tala Mathope, affectionately known for uniting people and championing community causes, emphasized the power of collective action. “Today, we fulfill a promise – to serve with humility and love,” he said, his eyes misty with emotion. “As we celebrate our birthdays, we remind ourselves that leadership is about leaving footprints of kindness.”
Cde David Tladi, beaming with pride, added, “This is what it means to be a servant leader. We don’t just lead with our words, but with our actions. Happy birthday to us, indeed – as we make someone else’s dream come true!”
Cde Minah Bahula underscored the region’s commitment: “It is potent and imperative that we love one another, take care of one another, and enhance each other’s lives. Our Secretary’s heart for the people knows no bounds. This is the ANC we know – plowing back into communities, restoring dignity, and spreading love.”
Thokoane family representative, voice shaking with gratitude, said, “Words fail me… this gift is a dream. My children will finally sleep safely. May God bless these angels.”
Community elder Momo Sebata chimed in, “These leaders walk the talk. They’ve brought back hope. We celebrate their birthdays, but more so, we celebrate their hearts.”
The initiative underscores the region’s pledge to uplift the vulnerable, echoing the leaders’ belief in service above self. The event culminated with heartfelt gifts presented to the birthday celebrants by “Ma-Areka,” the progressive women of the movement, as smiles lit up the venue.
As the Thokoane family dreams of classrooms, clinics, and jobs for all, the ANC Sekhukhune Region affirms its commitment to community service, proving once more that leadership is about making a tangible difference.
