In a landmark moment that promises to reshape the future of South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a groundbreaking R1 trillion infrastructure investment plan that will catapult the country into a new era of economic growth, job creation, and social progress.

Speaking at the 2025 Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) in Cape Town, Ramaphosa unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform the nation's infrastructure landscape, unlocking its full potential and empowering its people.

The President's bold vision is centered on the conviction that infrastructure development is the backbone of economic growth and social progress. By investing in roads, energy, water, logistics, and other critical sectors, the government aims to create a robust and interconnected infrastructure network that will drive economic activity, create jobs, and improve living standards.

To achieve this ambitious plan, the government is working to mobilize all available capital, both domestic and international, towards this infrastructure boom. Ramaphosa announced that Infrastructure South Africa would be implementing reforms to make public-private partnerships easier, faster, and more predictable, with a focus on projects under R2 billion.

The President highlighted several key projects that are already making a difference in people's lives, including the Hazelmere Dam wall raising project in KwaZulu-Natal and the 100 MW Redstone Concentrated Solar Power Plant in the Northern Cape. He also noted that Infrastructure South Africa's project preparation fund has supported the development of 34 infrastructure projects with an estimated capital value of R259 billion.

Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of collaboration and coordination in achieving this ambitious infrastructure build program, citing the Leaders Forum meeting inaugurated last year as a vital platform for bringing together infrastructure ministers from across the African continent.

With a focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, the President's R1 trillion investment plan has the potential to transform South Africa's economy and improve the lives of millions of people. As Ramaphosa said, "Infrastructure is the flywheel that our economy needs to boost growth and create jobs." This is a clarion call to action, and the nation is poised to reap the benefits of this visionary leadership.
